The ‘Helldivers’ Movie May Have Its Star in Alan Ritchson

Months after Jason Momoa backed off starring in the upcoming Helldivers movie, a new headliner has reportedly emerged in Alan Ritchson.
Per the Hollywood Reporter, the Reacher star is currently in talks, though Sony’s currently keeping mum on the possibility. If it happened, it’d be an interesting trajectory for the actor: along with the Prime Video show, he recently starred in Netflix’s War Machine, where he played a prospective Army Ranger fighting an alien robot.
For some Helldivers fans, that movie alone probably shows how good he’d be in an actual film. Developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, the games center on the shock troops of Super Earth, who defend the planet from alien bugs, cyborgs, and automatons. Think Starship Troopers, and that’s more or less this series, whose latest installment was a critical and commercial success when it launched in 2024 on PlayStation 5 and PC.
It was around last year that Sony wanted to bring three of its current game franchises to TV and film. Guerrilla Games’ Horizon is still supposed to be getting a feature film, while Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima has an anime arriving in 2027. No word yet on a release window for Helldivers, which’ll be directed by Justin Lin, but we’ll have more on the film as news deploys.
