Federal Probe Expands Into Voting Rights Community After FBI Subpoena – Journal Posts
Federal officials have issued a subpoena to America Votes, a major nonprofit voter mobilization group, as part of a widening investigation tied to the Ohio Organizing Collaborative, according to sources familiar with the probe.
The FBI served the subpoena on the Washington-based organization, which has provided at least $500,000 in funding in recent years to the Ohio Organizing Collaborative, a statewide voting “rights” nonprofit founded in 2007. In a statement, America Votes confirmed it received a request for “basic records” related to its funding of the group.
According to former director and board member Prentiss Haney, federal agents have also been seeking information from partner organizations involved in voting rights work, describing the scope as extensive and wide-ranging.
The Ohio Organizing Collaborative’s affiliated arm reported registering nearly 160,000 Ohio voters in 2024, calling it one of the largest independent voter registration efforts in the country. Last week, FBI agents reportedly searched Ohio Organizing Collaborative offices and questioned staff and volunteers about possible voter registration fraud.
