Sinkholes can be deadly.
Back in 2013, a sinkhole under a house in Seffner, FL, east of Tampa, FL, literally swallowed and killed a man sleeping in his home.
His traumitized brother was interviewed at the time. He jumped into the hole trying to save his brother. He couldn’t find him.
According to Fox 13 (Tampa Bay), the man’s body was never found. (See video below.)
The site is near I-75 and I-4.
A decade later, the sinkhole reopened on the site in a neighborhood, 19 feet across, shocking nearby residents and frankly the entire country. It previously opened again in 2015 and by this time was fenced off after the house was demolished.
Two nearby houses were also demolished after the 2013 sinkhole.
Despite the third opening, county officials said that the surrounding neighbors were safe.
The brother said he still has a hard time sleeping. He remembers the sinkhole everyday. A memorial plaque of his lost brother is near the fence on the site.
