Zohran Mamdani in Huge Bother – JP

In a stunning admission that has New Yorkers doing double-takes, Mayor Zohran Mamdani basically waved the white flag on his progressive utopia just months into his term.
Facing a monstrous $5.4 to $7.1 billion budget deficit, the Ugandan-born democratic socialist mayor and his team announced they are delaying the city budget past the legal deadline and are now openly begging Albany for a bailout.
In a joint press conference with City Council Speaker Julie Menin, Mamdani dropped the mask:
“We cannot close this deficit with savings alone. We need new revenue.”
Translation: Taxpayers, brace yourselves.

Instead of making the tough spending cuts many predicted would be necessary under his watch, Mamdani is pleading with Governor Kathy Hochul and state lawmakers for more money and changes to the Pass-Through Entity Tax that would supposedly bring in nearly $1 billion.
This is the same mayor who ran on a bold, big-spending progressive vision. Now, reality is hitting hard, and he’s kicking the can down the road while holding out his hand to the state.
Critics wasted no time piling on.One longtime New York political observer put it bluntly: “This is what happens when you campaign like a socialist and govern with other people’s money.”
The delay pushes the official budget release to at least May 12, creating more uncertainty at a time when the city is already struggling with migrant costs, crime concerns, and slowing business growth.
