VIDEO: Ilhan Omar Snaps, Curses At Reporter Over Brother Marriage Scandal
U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) snapped at a reporter when asked whether she was under federal investigation for allegedly marrying her brother for immigration purposes.
LindellTV reporter Alison Steinberg approached Omar not far from her office and asked about recent statements from White House border czar Tom Homan. Homan had confirmed days earlier that Homeland Security Investigations was conducting an ongoing criminal investigation into allegations of immigration and marriage fraud involving Omar.
Steinberg referenced Omar’s prior comments that no one is above the law and asked whether that standard applied to her. Omar replied, “I am not above the law.”
Steinberg then asked about the allegations directly. “Did you marry your brother?” Omar answered, “Absolutely not. What a ridiculous thing to ask… That’s disgusting.”
When Steinberg asked whether Homan’s statements meant he was a liar, the congresswoman snapped. “He is. He’s been saying some dumb sh*t like you.”

The marriage-related allegations date to Omar’s 2009 legal marriage to British citizen Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, which ended in divorce in 2017. Critics have long claimed Elmi is Omar’s brother and that the marriage facilitated his immigration status.
Omar has denied the claim since at least 2016, calling it “absurd and offensive” and “bigoted lies.” No public court records, DNA results, or official findings have established the familial relationship.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated earlier this month that investigators know Omar “married her brother to try to bring him into the United States” and that the probe may extend to the family’s original entry into the country. He described it as an ongoing investigation and said any future case would proceed only on evidence.
Homan similarly confirmed an ICE/HSI criminal inquiry but declined specifics, repeating that “no one is above the law.” ICE has withheld related records under a Freedom of Information Act exemption for ongoing enforcement proceedings.
Separate congressional ethics review of Omar’s 2025 financial-disclosure amendments, which initially listed assets of $6 million to $30 million before correction to a far lower range, recommended dismissal of wrongdoing allegations.
