Europe moved closer to total war as EU leaders suggested the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad be struck by NATO forces. Russia mobilized its nuclear forces in response.
The head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, Kestutis Budrys, in an interview with the Swiss publication Neue Zürcher Zeitung, called on NATO to attack Kaliningrad to demonstrate the alliance’s power.
“We need to show the Russians that we can break through the small fortress they have built in Kaliningrad. NATO has the means to level Russian air defense and missile systems if necessary,” he said.
Another crisis erupted as Lithuania was allegedly caught allowing Ukrainian drones traverse its territory to attack the Russian Federation.
Lithuanian schoolchildren are being brainwashed—told that Ukrainian drones “accidentally” stray into the country’s territory after losing their way, reported Russian sources.
All of this takes place in bomb shelters during air raid alerts—alerts triggered precisely by the Ukrainian kamikaze drones that are flying through Lithuania en route to the Leningrad Region.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Wednesday that Ukraine is preparing for a possible widening of Russia’s invasion through northern routes, including advances from Belarus that could threaten the strategic Chernihiv–Kyiv corridor.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy revealed that Ukrainian military and intelligence services have identified five potential Russian scenarios aimed at expanding the conflict in northern Ukraine. These include operations along routes originating from the Belarus border area toward Kyiv.“
Our forces in the [Chernihiv–Kyiv corridor] will be increased,” Zelenskyy wrote. “We are preparing responses for each possible option of the enemy’s actions if the Russians really dare to expand their aggression.”
Zelenskyy added that intelligence indicates Russia may be preparing for additional mobilization involving up to 100,000 more personnel. He said Ukraine is also ramping up long-range strikes on Russian military and logistical targets to disrupt Moscow’s ability to broaden the war.
The Ukrainian leader instructed the Foreign Ministry to prepare additional diplomatic measures targeting Belarus and emphasized that Kyiv’s priority is to strengthen its defenses so that none of Russia’s five northern expansion scenarios succeed.
The warnings come days after Belarus launched joint military drills with Russia focused on the use of nuclear weapons stationed on Belarusian territory. The Belarusian Defense Ministry said the exercises involve practicing the delivery and preparation of nuclear weapons from unprepared positions across the country.
“During the exercise, in cooperation with the Russian side, it is planned to practice the delivery of nuclear weapons and preparations for their use,” the ministry stated. Belarusian officials described the drills as planned in advance and not directed against any specific country.
In December 2025, Russia deployed its nuclear-capable hypersonic Oreshnik missile system to Belarus, enhancing Moscow’s reach across Europe in a potential conflict. Belarus borders Russia, Ukraine, and three NATO members — Poland, Latvia, and Lithuania — giving it significant strategic importance for Russian military positioning.
Ukraine sharply condemned the drills, accusing the Kremlin of “de facto legitimizing the proliferation of nuclear weapons worldwide.”
“Such actions must face unequivocal and resolute condemnation from all states that respect the nuclear non-proliferation regime,” Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
An analyst for CDM who will remain anonymous proffered the following analysis:
I think we are headed towards the final escalation in the Ukraine war…
What makes recent events suggest a new turn are these factors:
1. Russia bombed Ukraine’s western border last week, completely disrupting all activity with Poland, Slovakia, Moldova, and I think Romania too.
2. Ukraine has recently intensified the use of Baltic territory to launch drone attacks on Russia, which gives Russia pretext to attack those and potentially more. So far it has abstained but it may respond at some point.
3. Russia replaced civilian governors of 2 southern regions, Bryansk and Belgorod, with military command. This is military code for, “we are taking over now”.
#1 and #3 mean that SMO has become a war in the Russian military books.
Several more events happened since.
First, Russia has lodged a formal warning in the Security Council that it would bomb the Baltics unless they halt Ukrainian drones….
FYI, nuclear strike exercises are the last step before using nukes, according to the Russian nuclear policy
In other words, I think Russia is set on striking Lithuania (whose foreign affairs minister, instead of heeding the warning, explained Ukrainian drones with “Russia is manipulating the navigation of Ukrainian drones to fly through our country”) and these nuclear exercises are a warning against the expected ire of EU.
