Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to travel to Beijing next week for talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The Kremlin announced the visit less than 24 hours after President Trump concluded his own state visit to China.

The Kremlin said Putin’s May 19-20 trip will center on bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and “key international and regional issues.” The visit also marks the 25th anniversary of the 2001 Sino-Russian Treaty of Friendship. Russian officials said the meetings are expected to produce a joint statement “at the highest level” along with multiple intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements.

The Kremlin also confirmed Putin is expected to return to China later this year for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Shenzhen in November.
