NY-13: Mamdani-Backed Chevalier Wins Primary, but Check Out Who Likely Put Her Over the Top
Anyone who is a big fan of socialism, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and who hates Israel has to be loving what played out on Tuesday in the three House primary races where the mayor made an endorsement. All three of the candidates he backed, Brad Lander in NY-10, Claire Valdez in NY-07, and Darializa Avila Chevalier in NY-13, have moved on to the general election, where they are likely to be victorious in the heavily blue gerrymandered districts.
Of the three, Avila Chevalier’s victory was the narrowest, with her barely squeaking by five-term incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat, who is the Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. He’s also the co-chair of the House Latino-Jewish Caucus, which might have been one thing that helped sink his reelection bid, considering the anti-Israel, pro-Hamas sentiment that has taken root in the Big Apple under Mamdani’s “leadership.”
Here’s what it looked like with about 88 percent of the vote in:
DDHQ Race Update (est. 88% in): New York US House 13 Democratic Primary
Darializa Chevalier (D): 30,533 (49.4%)
Adriano Espaillat (D): 28,570 (46.2%)
Oscar Romero (D): 2,213 (3.6%)Follow more results here:https://t.co/qZGdfgX3ys pic.twitter.com/FxD8uW51Jk

Something I found rather interesting and telling about this primary race was polling numbers that were released a week ahead of the primary that showed where Democrat voters in the district stood on Avila Chevalier and Espaillat:
Doctoral candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier, who is also supported by the Democratic Socialists of America, bested Espaillat among white voters, 35% to 25%, according to the survey obtained by The Post.
Espaillat led among black voters 36% to 21% and Latinos 42% to 30% in the 13th House District that runs through the northern Manhattan neighborhoods of Morningside Heights, Harlem, East Harlem, Washington Heights/Inwood and the western Bronx.
It wouldn’t surprise me one bit to find out that woke white leftists (including AWFLs, of course) helped put Avila Chevalier over the top in the primary, when one considers which Democrat voters helped Mamdani surge to victory in the mayoral primary last summer, and which ones didn’t:
And Mr. Mamdani did so even as he lost many of New York City’s most solidly Black neighborhoods. A New York Times analysis of the results shows that Mr. Cuomo dominated in precincts where at least 70 percent of residents are Black, more than doubling Mr. Mamdani’s support, 59 percent to 26 percent.

The “tough part that we’re wrestling with,” [Rev. Rashad Moore] added, “is Zohran won with support of liberal progressive white folk. Are these the same progressive white folk that are pricing us out and we can’t live in the community? That’s the tension.”
On primary night, the New York Times had some interesting breakdowns of the numbers that indicate a similar scenario played out in the NY-13 Democrat primary:
NYT on #NY13 congr. primary: Espaillat led w/ older, lower income, Black, & Hispanic voters. “Socialist” Chevalier led w/ younger, college-educ., higher income, i.e. gentrifiers. @Girlboxingnow @ThatAlvaJohnson @nantienomi @nell108nysports @jessicafalstein https://t.co/16noBZYTtf

The liberal white guilt complex is going to destroy America – but only if we let it.
Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
