Mid-range Android phones can offer a good balance of everyday performance, battery life and storage without the price tag of a flagship device. If you spend a lot of time away from a charger or want a phone that can cope with demanding everyday conditions, battery capacity and durability are particularly important.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G is currently available for £449 at Amazon, down from its £549 RRP. That saves you £100 and matches the lowest price for this relatively new smartphone. The phone was still selling at its RRP until mid-September, before settling at its usual £479 price. It reached £449 in early October, and Amazon has now brought it back down to the same low price. The phone is also listed as an Amazon’s Choice product, with more than 50 purchases in the past month.

What the Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro Max has to offer

The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G runs Android with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 interface. It uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 processor alongside 8GB of RAM. You also get 512GB of storage, giving you plenty of room for photos, videos, apps and other files.

One of its main selling points is the 9,210mAh battery. Xiaomi claims that the phone can last up to three days on a single charge, depending on how you use it. That capacity could be particularly useful if you regularly travel, spend long days away from a power socket or simply don’t want to charge your phone every night.

When you do need to recharge, the phone supports 100W wired HyperCharge. It also offers 27W reverse wired charging, allowing you to supply power to compatible gadgets using the phone’s battery.

The 6.83-inch flat OLED display has a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The camera system consists of a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 32MP front-facing camera.

Durability is another important part of the package. The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max carries IP66 and IP68 dust and water resistance ratings. Xiaomi says it can withstand submersion at a depth of two metres for up to 72 hours.

For connectivity, the mobile phone supports dual SIM, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 6.0, alongside stereo speakers. Xiaomi HyperAI is integrated at system level through HyperOS 3, with AI-powered features for text, voice and search across different apps and scenarios.

Why this offer is worth it

At £449, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G offers 512GB of storage, a very large battery, 100W charging and a durable design for less than its £549 RRP. The price is particularly noteworthy because it returns the phone to its lowest price so far, after it had settled at £479 following its initial period at full RRP.

In our Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro Max review, we found that the phone excels in two areas: battery life and durability. The 9210mAh battery delivers exceptional multi-day endurance, while the tough construction and fast charging make it a compelling option for people who spend long periods away from home. The generous storage capacity also adds to its value.

However, there are compromises. Our review highlighted middling performance, frustratingly busy software and a poorly calibrated display. The camera system is also relatively modest compared with some competitors. If performance, camera quality or a cleaner software experience are your main priorities, you may want to consider other phones.

Customer feedback on Amazon is positive about the phone’s overall quality and battery life. Buyers also praise its speed, with some describing it as particularly fast and impressive. That broadly supports the phone’s strengths, although the concerns raised in our review are worth keeping in mind.
