Cole Allen, the 31-year-old part-time teacher and tutor from Torrance, California, sent a 1,052-word manifesto to family members approximately 10 minutes before carrying out an assassination attempt targeting President Donald Trump and his cabinet members at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington D.C. on Saturday night.

The document, signed “Cole ‘coldForce’ ‘Friendly Federal Assassin’ Allen,” explained his actions and plans for explicitly targeting Trump administration officials.

In the manifesto, Allen began by apologizing to friends and relatives for any scrutiny. “I apologize to my parents for saying I had an interview without specifying it was for ‘Most Wanted.’ I apologize to my colleagues and students for saying I had a personal emergency… I apologize to all of the people I traveled next to, all the workers who handled my luggage, and all the other non-targeted people at the hotel who I put in danger simply by being near,” he wrote.

Allen then sanitized his actions by framing the assassination attempt as a civic duty. ” I am a citizen of the United States of America. What my representatives do reflects on me. And I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes,” the accused gunman went on.

He described the Trump administration’s officials as his primary targets, prioritized “from highest-ranking to lowest,” while excluding FBI Director Kash Patel. Allen then claimed that he had no intention of killing anyone else, but conceded that he would have no problem killing anyone who got in his way, including innocent bystanders.

Allen also rejected potential criticisms and phrased his actions as morally righteous. “Turning the other cheek is for when you yourself are oppressed. I’m not the person raped in a detention camp. I’m not the fisherman executed without trial. I’m not a schoolkid blown up or a child starved or a teenage girl abused by the many criminals in this administration. Turning the other cheek when someone else is oppressed is not Christian behavior; it is complicity in the oppressor’s crimes,” the accused gunman, who was active on the left-wing extremist site Bluesky, wrote.

He also thanked his family, church, friends, colleagues, and students in the document, and included a postscript criticizing what he viewed as inadequate security at the venue.

Officials noted that Allen’s social media accounts contained a substantial volume of anti-Trump and anti-Christian rhetoric, though specific posts have not been publicly released in full. Many posts used language similar to that found in the manifesto, including comparing basic immigration law to the Holocaust and comparing Trump officials to Nazi Germany.

Allen had also attended a “No Kings” protest in California and was affiliated with a group known as “The Wide Awakes,” according to family statements to investigators. He also donated $25 to a political action committee associated with Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign in 2024.

Allen faces federal charges stemming from the incident, in which he allegedly attempted to breach a Secret Service checkpoint at the Washington Hilton while armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives. He is charged with two counts of using a firearm during a crime of violence and one count of assault on a federal officer with a dangerous weapon, with additional charges possible.

One officer was injured during the attack, but escaped serious injury since he was wearing a bulletproof vest.

In the days leading up to the event, Allen traveled by train from Los Angeles to Chicago and then to Washington, D.C. He checked into the Washington Hilton one day prior to the dinner.

Family members, including his brother, alerted law enforcement after receiving the manifesto, and his sister was interviewed by the Secret Service and local police.

Investigators continue to question Allen’s associate and have executed a search warrant on a California property associated with him since the attack. The investigation remains ongoing.
