Indiana Supreme Courtroom Guidelines in Favor of Abortion Ban

The Indiana Supreme Court delivered a major victory for the state’s pro-life law Thursday.

The high court issued a ruling denying Planned Parenthood’s petition to transfer jurisdiction in a challenge to the abortion ban and allowing a Court of Appeals ruling upholding the protections for the unborn to stand.

The decision means Indiana’s law protecting babies from abortions will continue to be enforced.

Attorney General Todd Rokita hailed the ruling as a decisive win. In a statement, Rokita said the court “ruled in favor of our office and delivered a decisive WIN for the people of Indiana and the unborn!”

“The court denied Planned Parenthood’s petition to transfer jurisdiction. This means the Court of Appeals’ ruling upholding our pro-life law stands firm,” Rokita added. “Thanks to this decision, our protections for life remain constitutional and will be enforced.”

Rokita emphasized the ongoing fight against challenges to the law.

“Like we’ve said before, no matter how many times Planned Parenthood tries to sue and push forward their culture of death, we will continue fighting for mothers, fathers, and the unborn,” he said.

The ruling leaves in place the limited health exception to the ban. Since abortion is not health care and abortion bans don’t stop care for miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies, that’s all that is necessary.

Indiana was the first state to pass a new abortion ban after Dobbs. Other states had bans or triggers laws that automatically went into effect that were approved beforehand.
