Glamorous Ex-Fox Anchor Jailed For Life At 48
A former local Fox anchor was sentenced to life in prison Monday after pleading guilty to murdering her 80-year-old mother in a brutal Halloween stabbing inside a Kansas home.
Angelynn Mock, 48, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Anita Avers, who was found gravely wounded in her Wichita bedroom on Oct. 31, 2025.
Mock was sentenced to life behind bars with the possibility of parole after 25 years.
During the sentencing hearing, Avers’ stepdaughter, Sonja Kreutziger, delivered a blistering victim impact statement.
‘The person I knew as gentle, kind Angie did not just murder her mom; she ambushed Anita while Anita was in bed asleep,’ she said.
‘This was so out of character for the Ange we thought we knew, so devastating, so calculated, so demonic.’
Police found Avers unresponsive in bed, wearing only underwear and a bra, after suffering multiple stab wounds to her face and torso, according to court records.
Several kitchen knives and a cheese grater were found ‘laid out on a pillow’ beside her, and ‘all the utensils had blood on them,’ according to the affidavit.
Mock called 911 herself and initially claimed she had acted in self-defense.

She told a dispatcher that ‘her mother tried to kill her, so she stabbed her in return,’ according to the affidavit.
When officers arrived, they found Mock outside the home holding a towel against her blood-covered hands.
Avers was rushed to a hospital but later died.
Mock told investigators that she had gone into her mother’s bedroom and found her ‘sharpening knives’ before Avers allegedly ‘came after her with a knife and fought her,’ according to court documents.
Mock claimed her mother told her: ‘I know you’re f***ing Jesus Christ,’ police recorded.
She said she backed away before eventually grabbing a knife ‘and got on top of her,’ according to the affidavit.
Mock also told investigators she stabbed her mother because she ‘started spewing venom at me out of her f***ing mouth,’ the documents said.
Later, Mock told police she had entered the bedroom to talk about an ‘upcoming job interview with KSN because she was a news anchor,’ according to the affidavit.
KSN is an NBC affiliate.
Mock previously worked as an anchor at KTVI Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015 and also held a position at KOKH Fox 25 in Oklahoma City.
Her stepfather, Barry Avers, told police Mock had previously worked at the St. Louis station ‘before being laid off after an explosive situation involving alcohol,’ according to authorities.
At the time of her arrest, Mock was reportedly working in sales for a data management software company.
Before entering her guilty plea, Mock underwent a competency evaluation. A judge ruled in July that she was competent to stand trial.
During Monday’s sentencing, Mock spoke only briefly to tell the judge she did not intend to appeal.
The life sentence closes a stunning fall for a former television news personality whose career once put her in front of viewers across multiple markets.
