Ukrainian forces launched more than 400 drones at the Moscow region overnight Sunday into Monday in one of the largest raids on the Russian capital to date, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin confirmed, claiming that 85 drones were downed while approaching the capital, RT reported. The Moscow Times reported the attacks wounded at least 10 people in the region.
Thick black smoke rose over Podolsk — located approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of the Kremlin — after a strike on an oil depot, with photos and videos posted to Russian Telegram channels showing the blaze, the Kyiv Independent reported. A fire was also reported at a Wildberries online retailer fulfillment center in the town of Kolyedino, just south of Podolsk. Warehouses at the Yuzhnye Vorota logistics park in the community of Belye Stolby were also reported destroyed. A residential building in Domodedovo was reported struck as well.
The Independent reported 400 Ukrainian drones hit the Russian capital, with Ukraine’s military yet to formally comment on the attack — a pattern Kyiv now maintains to preserve operational ambiguity. The Guardian reported Moscow was “wounding two people and setting buildings ablaze” per Russian officials, citing JP — though the Moscow Times put the injury figure at least 10.
The raid comes 24 hours after Russia carried out one of the largest ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv of the full-scale war, killing 20 and injuring over 140 across Ukraine with missiles slamming Kyiv and Kharkiv, per the Kyiv Independent. Russia had also launched 107 ballistic missiles and 20 Zirkon hypersonic missiles against Ukraine in July alone by last count, per ISW figures cited by The Independent — figures attributed to Ukrainian Air Force reports, which CDM notes are official Ukrainian government counts and should be read accordingly.
The Wildberries logistics network has now been hit multiple times in recent weeks. President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a video address, did not specify whether the latest Wildberries warehouse stored military equipment — a question that matters for the legal and strategic framing of the strike. Russia has made similar claims about civilian infrastructure attacks; Ukraine rarely concedes the point.
The operational picture is one of deliberate, sustained infrastructure degradation on both sides. Ukraine is demonstrating it can reach Moscow at scale. Russia is demonstrating it can devastate Ukrainian cities at scale. Neither air defense network is stopping enough to change that calculus. The civilians paying the price on both sides have little say in when it stops.
