Miami, Florida – MDC Alumni Hall of Fame 2026 Dinner: On Friday, June 5, an elegant dinner was held at the Loews Hotel in Coral Gables to honor the most outstanding alumni of Miami-Dade College in its 2026 Hall of Fame. Among the awardees were: (1) the current U.S. Ambassador to Peru, Bernie Navarro, who could not attend due to the situation in that country; (2) Emilio Cabrera of McDonald’s; (3) Silvia Ríos Fortun for her extraordinary work supporting the Jackson Memorial Foundation; (4) the Fire Chief of Miami-Dade County, Fernando Gómez; (5) State Senator René García, who is now a County Commissioner; and (6) Néstor Machado in real estate, whose family owned the Cawy soft drinks brand on the island of Cuba during the republican era.

The presentation of the honorees was led by the popular President of MDC, Madeline Pumariega, and Jorge Plasencia, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Miami-Dade College Foundation.

Bill Pulte Appointment: William Pulte was named by President Trump to replace Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence. Currently, Pulte holds the position overseeing Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks. The White House confirmed that he will continue in this role and add the Director of National Intelligence position.

Because of Pulte’s inexperience with national security, however, President Trump has revoked his appointment and instead named Jay Clayton, currently United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission during the first Trump term. Hopefully Pulte will go back to focusing on privatizing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Protests at U.S. Embassy in Caracas: Hundreds of protesters went to the U.S. embassy in Caracas to demand general elections in Venezuela. They already need full democracy in their country. So be it! Of course, at the end of 1998 they voted for democratic socialism and got totalitarian communism until the beginning of this year, so maybe they should not be in such a hurry to embrace majoritarian democracy.

Polymarket 2028 Predictions: Polymarket published its latest prediction for the 2028 presidential elections and, as of today, the leaders are: Marco Rubio with 17% followed by JD Vance with 16%. Gavin Newsom with 14%, Kamala “la Mala” with 5.3%, and “Seso hueco” Ocasio-Cortez with 5%. Although we are still very far from the elections, Marco Rubio must feel very happy with these results. And so do we!

Jerry Demings Cancer Diagnosis: Jerry Demings, the current Mayor of Orange County (Orlando), Florida, has been diagnosed with “treatable” prostate cancer. Meanwhile, he has decided to suspend his campaign for governor of Florida. He is married to Val Demings, who was a Congresswoman in Washington from 2017 to 2023. She ran against Marco Rubio for the Senate in 2022 and lost bigly.

White House Correspondents’ Dinner: The White House Correspondents’ Dinner gala will now be held on Friday, July 24, according to organizers this week. The previous one had to be suspended when a criminal “snuck in” to the event firing a gun. The President, First Lady and Vice President Vance were there. I imagine security measures will be enormous. God willing, it can be held normally.

MacKenzie Scott’s Donations: MacKenzie Scott (Jeff Bezos’ first-wife) has donated to various causes $26.4 billion in less than 7 years. In 2025 she donated $7.2 billion, which is the most donated by any person in the world since Forbes began documenting donations. She is a famous novelist and was involved in the development of Amazon. Married to Jeff Bezos from 1993 to 2019. Very involved in women’s causes, she is an admirable person. Nevertheless, her donations have mostly favored woke progressive causes.

Visa and Mastercard Leave Cuba: Visa and MasterCard are leaving Cuba. These cards will no longer work on the island. Every day they are more isolated and complicated!

Josefina Vidal Statement: The strong hand of Communism in Cuba, Josefina Vidal, declared that nothing has been resolved between Cuba and the United States to date. Josefina is a lifelong Communist and has been a spokeswoman for the regime for many years. She speaks several languages, including English, French and Russian. She was the head of the Cuban Interests Section in Washington for several years, and is one of the “hardliners” of the regime. She was eventually expelled from the USA. An intelligent and dangerous woman.

Óscar Pérez Documentary: The documentary about the life of the Venezuelan investigator Óscar Pérez, assassinated in 2018 under the government of President Maduro, arrived in Miami. Now that Venezuela is at a crossroads with its past and its future, this information is once again unleashing emotions and one sees the cruelty in Oscar’s execution.

Peru Presidential Elections: In the Peruvian presidential elections held earlier this month, after the latest counts, Keiko Fujimori was leading in votes over her leftist rival. Hopefully she can assume power and govern Peru. We pray that the recount is carried out peacefully.

“Mom, I have good news and bad news,” Pepito says to Doña Milagros. “Tell me the good one, Pepito.” He said, “I passed all subjects!” She replied, “And the bad one?” So he admitted, “It’s a lie!”
