What TV and film commercials to expect during the Super Bowl

0

Super Bowl is one of the biggest sporting events of the year, watched by millions around the world. As such, it makes it the perfect place for studios to drop some of their biggest commercials for upcoming films and TV series.

We’ve now got a good idea on what big game ads there will be on Sunday 11 February. If you want to start planning your watch calendar, then keep on reading – we’ll also update this list after the games ends in case you miss the trailers.

You can also find out how to watch Super Bowl 58 and who is the headline act of the halftime show (spoilers, it’s not Taylor Swift).

Disney Studios

Which trailers are likely to air during the Super Bowl?

Variety has released an official list, but of course this is subject to change. Here’s the movies and series currently expected to debut:

Deadpool 3

Deadpool is now officially under Disney’s MCU umbrella, and behind-the-scenes teasers have confirmed that Hugh Jackman will return to play Wolverine – though he’ll likely be a variant from another multiverse. If a debut trailer drops, expect lots of fourth wall breaking, and a nod towards the gory and sweary nature that this series is known for.

Inside Out 2

Pixar’s hit Inside Out is officially getting a sequel and will introduce a brand-new emotion called Anxiety. There’s also a huge shake-up when headquarters gets a complete renovation. Disney already released a short teaser a few months ago, so a full trailer makes sense.

Twisters

The 1996 hit Twister is getting a standalone sequel starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell and Anthony Ramos. The original disaster flick followed a group of storm chasers who put their lives on the line to fix an alert system. No trailer has yet been released.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

The Planet of the Apes trilogy was a visually magnificent spectacle, following the revolutionary life of Caesar. This film is set 300 years after that, when humans have fallen back into a primitive state. Again, there was a teaser a few months back, so this will likely be a full trailer.

Wicked: Part One

The Wizard of Oz musical spin-off Wicked reimagines the classic tale, told from the perspective of Elphaba, AKA The Wicked Witch of the West. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will be starring in the main roles, and no trailer has yet been released for the film. As it’s split into two parts, the first half will almost certainly cover act 1 of the musical, building up to the iconic Defying Gravity number.

The Fall Guy

Ryan Gosling stars as stuntman Colt Seavers, who has been out of work for a year. He’s called back into the world of Hollywood when an actor goes mysteriously missing – but the longer he’s there, the more sinister things become. There’s already been a first trailer for The Fall Guy, so this may tease more plot info and cool stunts.

What trailers released during Super Bowl week?

After Variety’s initial report, some studios jumped the gun and released their rumoured trailers before Sunday. There’s a chance that some may have slightly different ads or clips, but it’s likely that everything below will be reshared.

Here’s which trailers dropped the week of the Super Bowl:

A Quiet Place: Day One
