The Trump administration will now have control of over 65 billion barrels of proven oil reserves in Venezuela, the largest in the world, after the capture of former President Nicolas Maduro last month. The deal will add more than doubled the amount of oil reserves in the U.S. and lower gas prices across the country.

Interim Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez, Nicolas Maduro’s former vice president and the U.S.-backed leader of the regime, confirmed the deal in a statement late Saturday night. The deal, she said, would be implemented as part of a 25-year partnership in the area of energy to jump-start Venezuela’s economic recovery, reported Breitbart.

According to the deal, the U.S. government will hold a 55% majority in a joint venture between the energy partnership and a private operator in Venezuela. In announcing the deal on Sunday, Trump declared it a victory for American energy independence and cheap fuel for U.S. consumers.

The president took to social media to make clear his intentions that the U.S. will gain, stating the move continues his personal efforts to correct President Joe Biden’s mismanagement during his time as leader, declaring “One of the things I am going to do with the Venezuelan Oil is fill up the Strategic National Reserves which, because of Sleepy Joe Biden, has been virtually emptied. The “topping out” process will begin very shortly, and is a Gift from Venezuela to the People of the United States.”
