Trump slams NYC Judge Juan Merchan for denying his right to attend Supreme Court immunity hearing

On Wednesday, Donald Trump strongly criticized Manhattan Judge Juan Merchan for barring the former president from attending oral arguments in his Supreme Court presidential immunity case, stating, “It’s the most important case in many years.”

Judge Merchan denied Trump’s request to attend oral arguments and ordered him to remain in Manhattan court for the duration of DA Alvin Bragg’s falsified business documents case against him. He threatened Trump with arrest if he did not appear in court every single day of trial.

As a result, Trump accused Judge Merchan of thinking that he’s “above” the High Court.

“Because he thinks he is above the Supreme Court, he is prohibiting me from going to the presidential immunity hearing where some of the great legal scholars will be arguing the case—the most important case in many years on the Supreme Court,” Trump told Fox News.

The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments in the case about Trump’s motion for immunity in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s J6 case against him.

“Without presidential immunity, the presidency becomes a ceremonial position only, it will be decimated. He’s prohibiting me from going. He is a radical left Democrat,” said Trump.

After Trump had issued the request last week to attend this landmark case, Judge Merchan argued to Trump’s attorney: “Arguing before the Supreme Court is a big deal, and I can certainly appreciate why your client would want to be there.”

“But a trial in New York Supreme Court is also a big deal,” said Merchan, who proceeded to deny Trump’s request and mandated the former president to be present inside the Manhattan courthouse for the duration of his trial.

Alvin Bragg, the district attorney for Manhattan, has accused Trump on 34 counts of first-degree business record fabrication.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges, referring to the case as a “communist show trial.”

“Virtually every legal scholar and expert in the country said that this case should not have been brought, that there was no crime, that everything was done properly and that this is a case that should be dropped immediately,” added Trump.

“It’s an embarrassment to Crooked Joe Biden and the Democrat Party who are duly standing behind it and the judge is totally conflicted — totally conflicted,” Trump continued.

Special Counsel Smith’s trial has been put on hold until the Supreme Court considers whether or not to grant Trump immunity from prosecution. It is being tried in the DC court of Judge Tanya Chutkan.

Smith accused the former president of conspiring to violate rights, obstructing an official proceeding, defrauding the United States, and obstructing an attempt to impede an official proceeding. These accusations were the product of Smith’s probe into Trump’s alleged involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot and potential meddling in the outcome of the 2020 election.
