Spider-Man is best known for its film adaptations. All three iterations, led by Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland respectively, were well-received by fans. Moreover, the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse are arguably among the best superhero movies ever made.
With its latest project, Sony is bringing a new version of the beloved hero to life. Spider-Noir, previously known as Noir, will be the first live-action series featuring the superhero… or rather, an unusual incarnation of him. It will take Spidey out of his familiar, contemporary environment and put him in a stylised, noirish New York of the 1930s.
Spider-Noir first appeared on screen in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as a version of Peter Parker from a different reality. The superhero was voiced by Nicolas Cage, and his appearance was received well by fans. Sony clearly took note and cast him in a standalone Spider-Man Noir live-action series.
Spider-Noir is developed by Sony, in collaboration with Prime Video. Continue reading to learn more about the series.
When will Spider-Noir be released?
The Spider-Man series will premiere on MGM’s linear channel on Monday, 25 May 2026. The show will be released globally on Prime Video on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.
The series will consist of eight episodes.
What will the plot of the Spider-Noir series be?
The series is based on the Spider-Man Noir comic books, which are part of the Marvel Noir universe – the branch inspired by film noir and pulp fiction.
Published between 2009 and 2010, the miniseries features an alternate version of Peter Parker, called Ben Reilly. He lives in New York City during The Great Depression. Spider-Man gains his powers during one of his investigations for the Daily Bugle newspaper – he’s bitten by a venomous spider hidden in an antique artefact stolen by criminals.
Prime’s series will show Reilly as a weary, ageing detective who looks back on his life as The Spider, the only superhero in the city.
As the official logline states:
[The show] tells the story of Ben Reilly (Cage), a seasoned, down on his luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life, following a deeply personal tragedy, as the city’s one and only superhero.
Interestingly, the series will be available for streaming in two versions. Viewers can choose between Authentic Black & White or True-Hue Full Colour.
