A 14-year-old girl suffered severe injuries on Thursday in Bnei Brak while preparing for Shabbat. The teen’s hand became trapped in a mixer while she was kneading dough for challah, resulting in the amputation of several fingers.
Emergency medical volunteers from United Hatzalah, an Israeli volunteer-based emergency medical service organization, were dispatched to the family’s home on Ginot David Street in Bnei Brak. The responders provided immediate medical treatment, stopping the bleeding and bandaging the wounds before the girl was transported to the hospital. Chili Miller and Yanky Deutsch, medics with United Hatzalah’s emergency response unit who treated the injured teen, described the incident: “We were told that the girl accidentally inserted her hand into the mixer while kneading dough for challah. We provided medical treatment that included stopping the bleeding and bandaging, and she was then evacuated in a United Hatzalah ambulance to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer, where doctors will attempt to save her fingers.”
