‘Runaway Train’: Chuck Grassley Torches Jack Smith, Accuses Him of Obtaining Texts of Dozens of Lawmakers

0

With each new revelation about former Special Counsel Jack Smith, who apparently would do anything to bring down Trump with his classified documents and election interference cases, the sordid tale just gets dirtier and dirtier.

He was accused in the fall of 2025 of violating the rights of lawmakers by secretly subpoenaing their phone records, and earlier in July, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) alleged that Smith and his team violated classified document handling procedures — even as they were investigating Trump for exactly that crime.

Grassley had more damning info to drop Tuesday: Smith was allegedly reading lawmakers’ emails.

The Democrats are constantly prattling on about how the Trump administration has turned the Department of Justice into a political weapon, but as the saying goes, “pot, meet kettle.” More and more evidence keeps piling up that former President Joe Biden and his attack dog Attorney General Merrick Garland regarded the DOJ as their own “get Trump by any means possible” play toy:

I would say, “unbelievable!” At this point, however, I’m sure someone would fairly retort, “Actually, it’s very believable.”

Arctic Frost Unraveling: Jack Smith’s ‘Unprecedented’ Phone Seizure Sparks White House Fury

Grassley released a statement in conjunction with Senate Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Ron Johnson (R-WI) accusing the tainted prosecutor of bypassing the DOJ’s own safeguards in their quixotic quest:

Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigative team obtained and reviewed text messages from 44 Members of Congress as part of the Biden Department of Justice’s (DOJ) criminal investigation into President Trump. Evidence shows the investigators bypassed a required Filter Team review process, violating investigative protocols and potentially infringing on constitutional guardrails.

The bombshell discovery comes in new records released today by… [Grassley and Johnson] as part of their ongoing Arctic Frost oversight. Grassley and Johnson requested the records from DOJ after receiving legally protected whistleblower disclosures.

“Jack Smith’s criminal investigation of President Trump was a runaway train that had no brakes,” they wrote.

As you might imagine, those spied on, a group which allegedly includes a handful of Democrats as well as numerous Republicans, were pretty ticked off by the news. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) noted that the new information clashes with Smith’s closed-door testimony under oath to Congress in December ‘25:

December 2025: Jack Smith swore under oath that he didn’t spy on text messages belonging to members of Congress.

Today: New evidence confirms he spied on dozens of members of Congress, myself included.

This is a blatant abuse of power, and exactly what our Founders warned about.

Missouri GOP Sen. Eric Schmitt thinks Smith could be in some serious hot water:

The longer that Joe Biden is mercifully away from the Oval Office, the more apparent the destruction his administration brought becomes. From the tens of millions of illegal aliens he ushered over our borders, to his attempts to kneecap our energy supplies, to his radical gender agenda, and, as we keep learning, to his apparent willingness to look the other way regarding corruption in the DOJ, it’s all a stark reminder of what we’ll see again if Democrats take power.

For Smith, his reputation just keeps slipping further down the drain.
