President Trump Seeks Apology From 'So-Called Bishop' Who Led Woke Prayer Service | JP

D.C. is among the most deep-blue places on the U.S. map, so it wasn’t altogether surprising that the bishop who led this week’s inauguration prayer service was preoccupied with “woke” social issues.

Nevertheless, Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde’s comments were deemed especially partisan by many critics, including Trump himself.

In a social media statement, the president called on Budde to apologize to the American people.

According to The Hill:

“The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater. She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way. She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart,” he said.

“She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people. Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions,” the president added. “It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA. Apart from her inappropriate statements, the service was a very boring and uninspiring one.”

Trump also called on her and the church to apologize to him.

“She is not very good at her job! She and her church owe the public an apology!”

Her remarks were widely panned on social media:

In case you missed it, here’s an overview of Budde’s controversial service, per the Daily Mail:

Bishop Budde, 65, addressed Trump directly in a highly political speech from the pulpit during a traditional inaugural prayer service at Washington National Cathedral.

She told Trump: ‘I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country that are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and Independent families, some who fear for their lives.’

The liberal clergywoman then asked Trump to have mercy on illegal immigrants.

She said: ‘The people who pick our crops, and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meat packing plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants, and work the night shifts in hospitals, they might not be citizens or have the proper documentation.

‘The vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. I ask you to have mercy Mr. President on those in communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away.’

Trump maintained his calm and appeared to look on slightly wearily after a full day and night of Inauguration festivities.

But some other members of the congregation seemed uncomfortable as they listened to the bishop’s diatribe.

Here’s what Trump had to say about the service shortly after it concluded on Tuesday:
