Pro-life advocate Katie Zacharia has been offered the job of White House press secretary, putting a mother of four who has publicly credited her own survival to a last-minute choice for life in line for one of the administration’s most visible posts.

A White House official confirmed Friday that President Donald Trump offered Zacharia the position after Karoline Leavitt left the role in August.

Zacharia, a conservative attorney and commentator, is a senior communications adviser to Trump Media & Technology Group and its Truth Social platform

Zacharia has described a personal reason for her opposition to abortion.

In a 2025 interview with Gates Garcia, she said she was “approximately 20, 30 minutes away from being aborted.” She said her biological mother, then a 19-year-old with an abortion appointment already set, received a call from a Christian counselor urging open adoption instead.

Zacharia said she was adopted as a newborn and met her biological mother at 18.

She serves on the board of the White Rose Resistance, a group founded by Seth Gruber that calls for legal protection of the unborn from fertilization. In the same interview she called the work “a blessing and gift” alongside people who want “to end abortion and preserve unborn babies’ lives.”

She has also criticized the abortion pill. In that interview she said the drug uses “the same chemicals that they used in the extermination camps in Nazi Germany” to stop progesterone and cut off oxygen to the baby.

On Oct. 2 she praised Justice Samuel Alito and posted his language from Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization: “Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives.”

Zacharia briefly served as a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson earlier this year and previously worked as a legal adviser to Fix California, the organization founded by Trump ally Richard Grenell. A Pepperdine law graduate, she appears frequently on Fox News and Newsmax.

The White House has not announced a start date.
