While her last names come from parents Maggie Baird and Patrick O’Connell, her first middle name Eilish is the Gaelic version of Elizabeth, according to EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum. As for Pirate, her then 4-year-old brother Finneas called her that before she was born.

“They called me Pirate for months, and they were kind of planning on naming me Pirate,” the singer revealed in her 2020 audiobook Billie Eilish – In Her Own Words. “And soon before I was born, my grandfather died, and his name was William, a.k.a. Bill, Billie.”
