‘I’m disciplining myself’: ‘Karen’ DA issues groveling apology after berating ‘a**hole’ cop
An excuse-laden apology from a now-infamous New York district attorney outlined her plan to see herself held accountable.
“…I’m disciplining myself.”
The release of bodycam footage from the Webster Police officer disregarded by Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley had quickly earned her a reputation as a “Corrupt Karen.” Now, as the Rochester City Council sought a formal inquiry with New York State Attorney General Letitia James, the upstate prosecutor released her own video detailing how “humbled” she was by her “own stupidity.”
“Last Monday, I failed you and the standards that I hold myself to and for that, I am so sorry. What I did was wrong — no excuses. I take full responsibility for my actions,” began Doorley in her less than two-minute-long statement. “I fell short of the values I’ve held for my entire 33-year career. I didn’t treat this officer with the respect that he deserved. All police officers deserve respect. I am truly and sincerely sorry.”

Seeking sympathies, the DA detailed her day which included reviewing three homicides, and recounted, “I watched a video where an innocent cab driver was executed and I was still reeling from a frightening medical concern that my husband received that afternoon.”
In the next breath, Doorley recognized how that was no excuse for her behavior and said, “But we all have bad days and stress and it was wrong for me to take it out on an officer who was simply doing his job. While I previously apologized to him, I will say it again, I’m sorry. Police already have a tough job and that day, I made this officer’s job harder.”
The DA appeared to hold a different position on that point at the time of her interaction with the officer who had followed her home after she hadn’t pulled over for speeding. In the video, she could be heard telling the cop, “You know what I’ve been dealing with all day — three murders in the city? And do you think I really care if I was going 20 miles over the speed limit?”
Doorley had also called Webster Police Chief Dennis Kohlmeier during the incident whom she reportedly asked to instruct the “a**hole” cop to “leave me alone.”

As she admitted to her actions and announced that she had entered a guilty plea for the speeding ticket, the prosecutor said, “I’m referring the entire matter to a district attorney from another county for review and will fully cooperate with that investigation.”
She also explained that she would cooperate with an investigation from a grievance committee and insisted, “If one of my assistant district attorneys had acted this way, I would’ve disciplined them. So, I’m disciplining myself.”
“I will take ethics training to remind myself that professionalism matters. I’ve been humbled by my own stupidity and I am fully to blame,” stated Doorley.
The apology video followed the unanimous accord of the Rochester City Council to refer the DA to James as the nine members agreed, “This incident has led us to question her fitness to serve as District Attorney, and we believe an investigation by your office is warranted. The behavior exhibited by Ms. Doorley during the traffic stop, as captured in the body camera footage, appears to violate these standards. Such behavior undermines the credibility and integrity of our justice system and erodes public trust.”
Even with the apology, many were ready to see accountability as they sounded off on social media.
Convene a grand jury, present the evidence, charge and convict her with felony evasion.
