Here's How to Go Back to Google Assistant From Gemini

0

Since Gemini is my go-to chatbot, I didn’t think twice when Google asked me to upgrade Google Assistant to Gemini on my phone. Bad move I must admit. Gemini might be smarter, but it still lacks features to do a proper phone assistant’s job. For example, I asked it to set a recurring reminder for me and it simply replied it’s a language model and can’t do that. I mean, that’s one of the most basic jobs an AI assistant can do.

The worst part is, now I didn’t have a clear way to go back to Google Assistant. All shortcuts and voice commands led to Gemini. I even uninstalled all the updates and disabled the assistant, but enabling it again just opened Gemini. Thankfully, I managed to fix it with a bit of tinkering, and now I am here to help you switch back to Google Assistant from Gemini.

How to Go Back to Google Assistant from Gemini?

Thankfully, you don’t have to go for any drastic measures to switch back to Google Assistant, it can be done from the new Gemini app. Once you switch to Gemini, the Google Assistant app icon is replaced with Gemini. Open it and follow the below instructions to switch back:

1. Tap on your profile photo and then tap on “Settings”.

2. Here tap on the “Digital Assistants from Google” option.

3. Now select “Google Assistant” and confirm the prompt.

That’s it, the Gemini app icon will change to Google Assistant, and you’ll be back to using it for all AI assistant queries.

How to Switch to Gemini from Google Assistant?

After going back, you won’t see the initial prompt in Google Assistant that allowed you to switch to Gemini. If you ever want to give Gemini another chance, then the steps to enable it are a bit different. You need to enable it from the Google app on your phone instead, here’s how:

1. In the Google app, tap on your profile photo and select “Settings”.

2. Here tap on “Google Assistant“.

3. Now scroll down and tap on “Digital Assistants from Google” and select Gemini.

Move to Gemini

Gemini will again ask for the required permissions to start working.

Ending Words

For now, I am sticking with Google Assistant as many of my tasks depend on it that Gemini can’t handle. For any complex questions, I can access Gemini in the browser anyway. However, I am sure eventually we all have to move to Gemini as Google is showing signs of replacing Google Assistant with Gemini as default. Until then, you can go back to Google Assistant using the above instructions.
