Harmeet Dhillon Faces J6 Accountability Fire

Derrick Evans says the Civil Rights Division chief has left the officials behind the Jan. 6 prosecutions untouched and worked against lawsuits filed by the people caught in them.

Former West Virginia Delegate Derrick Evans is calling out Harmeet Dhillon, saying the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division has not investigated January 6, held the people behind the prosecutions accountable, or helped the prisoners who say the government persecuted them.

Evans also charged that Dhillon “actively worked against lawsuits filed by J6 prisoners” and blocks J6 prisoners on social media. His post did not identify a specific lawsuit or plaintiff.

Dhillon has led the Civil Rights Division since April 2025, according to her DOJ biography. Her office did open a D.C. jail investigation on Oct. 19—more than five years after the Capitol cases began.

That inquiry is a broad review of conditions for all D.C. jail inmates dating to Jan. 1, 2021. It examines excessive force, medical care, sanitation, and food. The DOJ notice does not name Jan. 6 detainees or announce an inquiry into the FBI, prosecutors, judges, jail officials, or other actors behind the January 6 dragnet.

Dhillon said the Constitution protects “every incarcerated American” and that no inmate should face unconstitutional conditions. The letter she signed says DOJ has reached no conclusions.

Evans’s charge is about the missing next step: a real accounting for the machinery that pursued Jan. 6 defendants. The October jail inquiry is not that investigation.

Long story short, Harmeet Dhillon hasn’t done a meaningful thing for the J6 prisoners.
