Former Trump National Security Adviser John Bolton pleaded guilty Friday to one count of illegally retaining classified information as part of an agreement with federal prosecutors.

Bolton is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 28 by U.S. District Judge Theodore Chuang. Under the plea agreement, prosecutors recommend any prison sentence be capped at five years, though the judge is not required to follow that recommendation. Bolton may withdraw his plea if the court imposes a harsher sentence or a fine exceeding $2.25 million.

Federal prosecutors charged Bolton in October with 18 counts related to the retention and dissemination of classified information.
