Former DeSantis Super PAC Spokesman Defects to Trump: “I Was Wrong”

Former Never Back Down super PAC spokesman Steve Cortes dropped Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) like a hot rock, throwing his support behind former President Donald Trump as the GOP presidential nominee.

In an article published on RealClearPolitics, Cortes said that his judgment on DeSantis was wrong, urging everyone to “read the room.”

“I believed that Republican voters were ready for a new post-Trump chapter of the America First movement,” Cortes began.

“I now believe I was wrong.”

He declared Trump the only candidate who could save the country from President Joe Biden and the Democrats.

Cortes also warned that another Biden term could end the United States as we know it.

“It is time to unify behind former President Trump as he leads the battle against the ruling class and the oligarchs intent on destroying the American way of life,” Cortes wrote.

“I implore all patriotic populists to join as I pledge to do all I can to work for Trump’s cause, just as I proudly did in 2016 and 2020.”

He further warned that Conservatives cannot risk further internal strife to jeopardize chances in the election.

“We do not have the luxury of further internal strife and instead must gird for an epic battle this autumn against our opponents who are inflicting daily damage upon America,” Cortes said.

“Any further time, capital, and effort spent attacking the frontrunner, especially with Democratic Party-like talking points, only dilutes the power of our cause as we head toward November.”

Cortes’s remarks came just months after longtime DeSantis ally, Florida state representative Randy Fine, also dropped the Republican Governor.

Fine slammed DeSantis for ‘doing nothing’ about Nazis who have reportedly invaded Florida.

“Today, I am endorsing @realDonaldTrump,” Fine wrote on X.

“The past 2 weeks have made me realize our choice as Jews is simple.”

“We can vote for the Gov who says the right things, or we can vote for the president who actually does them. When it comes to action, Trump has never let us down,” the former DeSantis ally wrote.

Trump also scored an endorsement from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) this week following his victory in the Iowa caucuses.

The Daily Fetched reported:

Throughout 2023, Cruz remained mum on who he was endorsing, saying he was friends with both the former president and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

However, Trump’s massive win in Iowa has confirmed to Cruz that Trump is the only choice for president.

“I’m a big believer in letting democracy play out,” Cruz said.

“Well, last night it played out and I gotta say, Trump’s victory was across the board, he won 51% of the vote, he won 98 of the counties.”

“Congratulations to President Trump on that dominating victory,” he said.
