Democrats Take Over House, Expected to Pass Abortions Up to Birth
Radical pro-abortion Democrats captured control of the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, positioning the party to advance legislation that would legalize abortion through all nine months of pregnancy nationwide and force taxpayers to fund killing babies.
The pro-abortion party needed a net gain of only a handful of seats to flip the chamber from the narrow pro-life Republican majority. Early projections indicated Democrats would secure a working majority, with final margins still being tallied in several competitive districts.

House Democrats had already outlined their legislative priorities in a September memo from the Cost-of-Living Healthcare Working Group addressed to pro-abortion Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. The document listed, for the first 100 hours of the new Congress, two abortion measures: the Women’s Health Protection Act and the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance Act.
That’s code for abortions up to birth and using tax dollars to kill babies.
Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, described the Women’s Health Protection Act as legislation that would “create federal abortion ‘rights’ and destroy state laws protecting the unborn.” She said it “should be called the Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act.”
Critics note the bill would override state limits on late-term abortions, informed-consent requirements and facility regulations, while allowing abortions after viability based on a physician’s determination.
The companion measure, the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance Act, would end the Hyde Amendment, the longstanding provision that bars federal funds from paying for elective abortions. Dannenfelser said the Democrats’ goals, once exposed in the memo, “are BRUTAL.”
“They’ve told us what they’re going to do,” Dannenfelser said. “Hakeem Jeffries, Chuck Schumer and their allies had their post-election plans exposed several weeks ago, when Politico reported on a memo outlining the politicians’ goals for the first 100 days of the next Congress.”
SBA Pro-Life America Communications Director Kelsey Pritchard has emphasized the stakes of the Hyde Amendment, which has been credited with saving more than 2.6 million lives since 1976.
“We are incredibly grateful for the protections Hyde has afforded to the unborn and the consciences of every American taxpayer,” she said. “A baby in Massachusetts, Maryland, or New York is just as precious, just as worthy of rights and protection as a baby in any other state.”
With Democrats now set to control the House, pro-life groups said the party’s stated first-100-hours agenda would put federal legislation overriding state protections and taxpayer funding of abortion on the table.
The Senate outcome remained unresolved Tuesday night, but a Democratic House majority would give the party a platform to advance the measures and force votes on the issue.
