Democrats’ Monetary Man Behind the Curtain – Bother for Republicans?
The 2026 midterm elections are still six months away, but the gamesmanship surrounding them is well underway. If Republicans cannot keep control of the House, we can look forward to Trump impeachment 24/7, along with making Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico states, and packing the Supreme Court. Democrats insist it is all on the table. Republicans should absolutely take them seriously. There is big money involved on both sides, but when it comes to big bucks, Democrats may have a secret weapon.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) has been talked about as a possible 2028 Democrat candidate for President. But Pritzker may be more focused on 2026. Behind the scenes, Pritzker has been quietly cutting checks to various campaign committees, senior leaders, and some 2026 congressional challengers that the Democratic Party sees as critical.

Publicly available Federal Election Commission information shows that Pritzker has contributed to individual campaigns and has donated six and seven-figure sums to committees like the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), and the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
The hefty donations may lead Pritzker to surmise that it puts him in the company of more prominent Democrat candidates like California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and even former Vice President Kamala Harris. Ryan Girdusky is a Republican consultant and says of Pritzker’s contributions, “Pritzker has been flirting for this run [for president] for quite some time; he’s got some advantages. His biggest advantage is his money.” He added that Pritzker is “just trying to buy some favorability.” In JB Pritzker’s case, he can buy a whole lot of favorability. He is a billionaire whose family owns the Hyatt hotel chain. He has also founded several venture capital and investment firms.
Nationally, Pritzker has donated $250,000 to DNC Services Corp/Democratic National Committee, which operates the Democratic Grassroots Victory Fund. He gave $200,000 to House Minority Leader, New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries’s (D-8) joint fundraising committee, the Jeffries Battleground Protection Fund. In 2025, Pritzker made two donations totaling $148,000 to the DCCC and three donations to the DSCC totaling $310,000.
Chicago runs the whole state. And Pritzker uses his money in the primaries to ensure that the least electable Republican ends up on the ballot with him.

Pritzker has also donated $1 million apiece to the House Majority PAC and the Senate Majority PAC. Pritzker is also not forgetting his Lieutenant Gov., Juliana Stratton, who is running for the seat soon to be vacated by Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL). He has donated twice to Illinois Future PAC, which is supporting Stratton. He has also donated to individual Democratic House and Senate candidates. What is interesting about those House donations is the fact that many are in at-risk seats in red states, are key allies of Hakeem Jeffries, or are longtime lawmakers in Democratic presidential primary states.
Pritzker’s contributions are all legal, but Girdusky pointed out Pritzker’s possible snags, saying:
“He was the big winner in Illinois; his backed candidates did best. But at the end of the day, if he goes into South Carolina with a five percent approval rating, it doesn’t matter how much money he’s giving. That’s generally his problem.”
An anonymous Republican consultant who has far-reaching fundraising experience said:
“We were dealing with [Pritzker] in Wisconsin. He was basically matching us dollar for dollar. This is 100 percent him setting up for a presidential run. I’ve seen this coming for a while; others have seen this coming for a while … These are all favors he’s going to cash in.”

Even though he could well afford it, Pritzker may not self-fund should he pull the trigger on a White House run in 2028, and has looked into what digital fundraising might look like.
It’s guys like JB Pritzker and his fellow billionaire, California gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer, who Republicans should be keeping more than an eye on. Even though there might be a likability issue, these are the guys who think they can buy their way out of that. JB Pritzker may decide it is more fun to be the puppeteer.
Pritzker is such a joke 🙄
He thinks his family’s financial success makes him all that & a bag of chips 🤦♀️— Gracie Nunyabiz (@GracieNunyabiz) May 4, 2026
Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
