#BoycottMeetThePress trends on X after Keith Olbermann, media leftists freak out over ousted RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel’s new gig on NBC, appearance on Meet the Press
NBC News and far-leftist MSNBC ignited controversy after the making the announcement that former RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel would be coming aboard as an analyst. The outrage was so vivid that #BoycottMeetThePress began to trend on X after host Kristen Welker interviewd McDaniel about her career shift on Sunday morning.
Many liberal pundits were outraged over the decision and demanded that McDaniel be kept off MSNBC, the network’s liberal-leaning channel. Former MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann took to X to passionately denounce McDaniel’s hiring and to accuse NBC News of compromising its integrity. He highlighted McDaniel’s past criticisms of MSNBC hosts and questioned her credibility as an analyst.
“The person they hired to sh*t on the (admittedly damaged) reputation of NBC News denied the honesty of the 2020 election and called the company’s opinion hosts propagandists. #fireRonna” Olbermann said in a post on X.
Olbermann also posted a screenshot of a 2023 post where McDaniel called MSNBC hosts “primetime propagandists” who pushed the “Russia collusion hoax.” Olbermann captioned this screenshot by saying, “This is the utterly dishonest fascist NBC News just hired and placed into rotation on MSNBC.”
Carrie Budoff Brown, head of NBC News’ politics and elections reporting, defended McDaniel’s appointment in a memo on Friday. Brown emphasized McDaniel’s perspective on national issues and the GOP.
“It couldn’t be a more important moment to have a voice like Ronna’s on the team,” Brown wrote in her memo, “As we gear up for the longest general election season in recent memory, she will support our leading coverage by providing an insider’s perspective on national politics and on the future of the Republican Party—which she led through some of the most turbulent and challenging moments in political history.”
Responding to the backlash, NBC News President Rashida Jones clarified that McDaniel will not appear on MSNBC. According to MSNBC insiders who confirmed with Fox News, the decision was due to the fierce backlash the channel had received following McDaniel’s hiring.
In her first stint as an NBC analyst, McDaniel appeared on Sunday for an interview on “Meet the Press.” The interview marked her first media appearance since her resignation as RNC chair. Meet the Press host Kristen Welker explained that McDaniel’s interview on the show was scheduled weeks before the announcement that McDaniel would become a paid NBC news contributor. Welker also added that she was “not involved” in McDaniel’s hiring.
Despite this, on Sunday morning #BoycottMeetThePress trended on X as the network’s liberal audience members suggested that they should refuse to watch the show because of McDaniel’s presence.
MSNBC host Chuck Todd showed his disappointment with the network on-air. Speaking with Welker, Todd stated that NBC News owes her an “apology” for having to conduct the interview with McDaniel.
“Our bosses owe you an apology for putting you in this situation,” Todd said to Welker.
Todd went on to claim that McDaniel has serious credibility issues because he is unsure if the answers given during her interview were because she didn’t want to mess up her contract and new relationship with NBC.
“She has credibility issues that she still has to deal with. Is she speaking for herself or is she speaking on behalf of who’s paying her?” Todd complained.
