Border Wall to be Accomplished in 2027

The United States is set to complete its southern border wall by late 2027, said Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Rodney Scott.

“The primary border wall will be done by the end of 2027,” he said during an event, as reported by France 24.

“There’s a couple of gaps,” Scott said. “The only places we’re not building a border wall is places where we’ve made a conscious decision that we don’t need it. Big Bend National Park, for example – super remote area, some very, very high cliffs.”

Surveillance technology and other devices are also expected to be installed by “about July, maybe at the latest August 2028,” Scott added.

A stretch of the Rio Grande along Texas will have its own barriers. “We’ll have the entire system to include a secondary barrier in places we need it – the water barrier and the Rio Grande River – and the technology,” he said.

In 2025, the Trump administration reclaimed border wall materials that the Biden administration had attempted to auction off. The company, GovPlanet, a government auctioning site, told Fox News at the time that the materials will be returned “at-cost” to the government and “protect the millions of dollars that U.S. taxpayers had already invested in this initiative.”

“We are expediting the transfer of these materials to support the administration’s border protection plans,” the statement continued. “We value our longstanding partnership with the U.S. government and look forward to continuing to support America’s federal agencies.”

In October 2025, DHS, alongside CBP, granted millions of dollars to construct a Smart Wall. The Smart Wall has been described as a border security system that utilizes “steel barriers, waterborne barriers, patrol roads, lights, cameras, and advanced detection technology to give Border Patrol agents the best tools in the world to stop illegal traffic.” The projects will add 230 miles of Smart Wall and nearly 400 miles of new technology.
