Trump to Explore Helping Form Israeli Unity Government | JP

President Trump said he will examine whether there is a way for him to help form a unity government in Israel, journalist Amit Segal reported. Israelis voted on October 27 in the election for the 26th Knesset.
An American source told Israel Hayom that the Trump administration wants Israel’s next government to be broad and “without extremists”.
The same source said that military and intelligence cooperation between the United States and Israel against Iran is continuing as normal. Neither the election results nor the makeup of the next government will change that cooperation. The source added that Trump’s top priority remains the complete neutralization of Iran’s nuclear program.
In an analysis published Tuesday, i24NEWS reported that senior American officials had intimated they wanted a broad government after the vote. Billionaire investor Bill Ackman, a Trump supporter, publicly called for an Israeli unity government on Sunday.
The idea faces opposition inside Israel. In a speech on Tuesday night after the first exit polls were released, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, chairman of Otzma Yehudit, warned against the prospect of a unity government.
President Yitzchak Herzog said on Wednesday that he will receive the official results next week and will then begin consultations with each faction.
“We must do everything, especially after yesterday, to avoid going back to another election,” Herzog said.
