A Delta Air Lines aircraft and an Air Canada aircraft made contact on the ground at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday morning, shortly after 10:30 a.m. local time.

According to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration statement, Delta Flight 7, an Airbus A350, was taxiing for departure when its left wingtip clipped the horizontal stabilizer of Air Canada Flight AC785, a Boeing 777. The FAA noted that the Air Canada aircraft was being towed and had stopped short of its gate.

Air Canada described the sequence in similar terms. A spokesperson stated that Flight AC785 had landed safely after arriving from Toronto and was being towed to the gate when the left wing of a Delta Airbus A350-900 made contact with its tail at about 10:30 a.m. local time.

The airline said there were no reported injuries to any passengers or crew, and that the aircraft would be taken out of service for inspection and repairs.

Delta identified its aircraft as an Airbus A350-900 operating as Flight 7 from Los Angeles to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. A spokesperson said the plane carried 275 customers and 15 crew members at the time.

“While taxiing at Los Angeles International Airport, a Delta aircraft made contact with an Air Canada aircraft. Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people, and we apologize to our customers for the experience and delay in their travels,” the airline said in a statement. Delta added that maintenance crews and airport teams were assessing the aircraft, that the airline was working to accommodate customers and evaluate recovery options, and that “Delta will cooperate with the NTSB on any investigation.”

No airport authority statement detailing operational effects was included in the initial reports. Available accounts did not indicate a broader runway closure or a count of delayed flights beyond Delta’s reference to customer delays and recovery planning.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the FAA investigation was underway, Delta had stated it would cooperate with any National Transportation Safety Board investigation, and both aircraft remained subject to inspection.
