Iconic Singer And TV Star Passes Away At 94
Jaye P. Morgan, a singer, actress and television personality whose career spanned decades across numerous outlets, passed away this week at the age of 94.
Her family confirmed she had been living with her nephew and niece, Duke Morgan Spencer and Peggy Sue Spencer, in Washington state. There will be no public memorial service, according to the announcement.

Born in 1931 in Mancos, Colorado, she was one of seven children of John Theophilus Morgan and Josephine Corrine Owens Morgan. At age three she joined the family vaudeville act, The Morgan Family, which included her parents, five brothers and one sister.
The group appeared in the 1935 film Stars Over Broadway and later settled in Los Angeles, where she performed on radio and at theaters. The act ended in 1945 following the death of her father. While attending Verdugo Hills High School she served as class treasurer and received the nickname “Jaye P.” after financier J.P. Morgan, which she kept throughout her professional career.
Morgan began singing professionally after high school, working with Hank Penny and then as vocalist with the Frank DeVol Orchestra. She later signed with RCA Victor and scored several hits in 1954 and 1955, including “That’s All I Want From You,” which reached No. 3 on the Billboard chart, and “The Longest Walk,” which reached No. 6. Other recordings from the period included “Danger! Heartbreak Ahead,” “If You Don’t Want My Love” and “Pepper-Hot Baby.”
She also got into television work around the same time. She was a vocalist on the ABC series Stop the Music and appeared regularly on The Robert Q. Lewis Show. In 1956 she hosted “The Jaye P. Morgan Show,” which featured several of her brothers. She made frequent guest appearances on variety programs including “The Ed Sullivan Show,” “The Jackie Gleason Show” and “The Ford Show Starring Tennessee Ernie Ford.”
She later became a regular guest on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” and other talk shows. In the 1960s she took acting roles on series such as “General Electric Theater,” “My Three Sons” and “The Eleventh Hour.”
Morgan was married three times. With musician Artie Kane she adopted a son, Paul Kane. In addition to her nephew and niece, she is survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives from her siblings.
