Mo. AG: Prosecutor Romanced Defense Atty, Shacked Up With Illegal Alien
Those who thought far-left judges had reached peak insanity should think again.
Missouri GOP Attorney General Catherine Hanaway has filed a petition to sack a county prosecutor. Hanaway alleges the prosecutor had sex with a criminal defense lawyer who represented criminals she prosecuted, and enjoyed a romance with a criminal defendant. That defendant was accused of beating his wife.
But topping off the cavalcade of conjugal capers, Hanaway’s allegations continue, was Ray County Prosecutor Camille Johnston’s canoodling with an illegal alien her office was prosecuting, then giving him the title to her car to help him flee authorities. Worse, Hanaway alleges, Johnston shacked up with the illegal and helped him flee authorities.
She also intimidated and frightened her employees with a mercurial temper. And she fired an employee who found out about her sexual shenanigans.
Petition to Court
Hanaway filed a petition quo warranto in Ray County Circuit Court. The petition challenges Johnston’s right — or warrant — to hold her elected office.
The petition alleges that Johnston romanced and bedded “T.T.” an attorney whose clients Johnston charged with crimes.
Johnston concealed the affair from the public and from the defendant she charged, and the “judicial officers before whom Respondent and T.T. appear.”
Johnston also created an atmosphere of “fear and intimidation” among employees when she canned an employee, the 12-page petition alleges:
One former employee, J.M., became aware that [Johnston] was engaged in another romantic relationship with a prospective defendant, C.W., who was charged with acts of domestic violence against his wife. [Johnston] retaliated against this former employee by firing her when [Johnston] became aware that J.M. was aware of the inappropriate relationship.…
[Johnston] was eventually disqualified from the prosecution of those charges based on acts of domestic violence when local law enforcement officers became aware of the prosecutor’s relationship with C.W. and sought the appointment of a special prosecuting attorney for that case.
[Johnston] recognized the impropriety of the relationship and intentionally and willfully withheld information regarding that relationship from the victim, the staff and employees of the Ray County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and the circuit court.
But that’s not all.
In keeping with the propensity among leftist women to support illegal aliens no matter their crimes, Johnston also played house with a Mexican illegal called “J.G.” He jumped the border in 2019.
The Mexican miscreant was a suspect in a sex-assault case. Nonetheless, the petition alleges, Johnston not only did not disqualify herself from his case but also tried to help him escape authorities.
“[Johnston] did, in fact, know of the whereabouts of J.G. and demonstrated her obvious conflict of interest by deliberately failing to disclose the location of J.G,” the petition alleges:
In fact, [Johnston] subsequently visited J.G. in Mississippi, where he had absconded, and subsequently went to Florida to vacation with J.G.
Additionally, during [Johnston’s] current term of office, [Johnston] drove her personal vehicle to Mississippi in 2023 and gave J.G. the title to her vehicle.
In 2024, J.G. was arrested in Ohio, and he is currently awaiting trial for the sexual offenses, which included felony offenses.…
[Johnston] willfully withheld this information from the victim, law enforcement, her office personnel and all others, and Respondent failed to bring any criminal charges because of her relationship with J.G.
Furthermore, [Johnston] actually assisted J.G. in absconding from Ray County, knowing that he had been accused of a sexual offense and that he was under criminal investigation.
Her Crime
Johnston’s “outbursts of anger and violence” caused “her staff to be fearful and afraid whenever Respondent was in the office,” the petition alleges.
She “likely committed” two crimes: corruption and hindering prosecution.
But if the allegation about the illegal alien is correct, Johnston also violated the federal statute against bringing and harboring an alien, which punishes “anyone” who:
knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that an alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States in violation of law, transports, or moves or attempts to transport or move such alien within the United States by means of transportation or otherwise, in furtherance of such violation of law;
knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that an alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States in violation of law, conceals, harbors, or shields from detection, or attempts to conceal, harbor, or shield from detection, such alien in any place, including any building or any means of transportation.
Despite that, federal authorities likely won’t prosecute Johnston. Though ballyhooed Border Czar Tom Homan has repeatedly promised that the Justice Department would charge sanctuary city officials under that statute, he has yet to do so.
A prominent case where federal authorities dropped the ball on that count involves disgraced former Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan. Despite being convicted on a federal charge of obstruction for helping an illegal alien escape from her courtroom, she received no jail time.
Nor, apparently, will the Justice Department charge her with harboring an illegal alien.
