Trump Orders Drawdown of U.S. Forces in Germany – Journal Posts
The Pentagon is preparing to withdraw roughly 5,000 U.S. troops from Germany, a move senior War Department officials say reflects President Trump’s dissatisfaction with the level of support from European allies in the ongoing conflict with Iran.
The drawdown will impact a brigade combat team currently based in Germany, while a long-range fires battalion previously scheduled for deployment there will be redirected elsewhere. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said the transition will occur over the next six to 12 months following a review of force posture and operational needs.
Officials said some of the withdrawing forces could return to the U.S. before being redeployed to other regions, particularly as the Pentagon increases focus on homeland defense and the Indo-Pacific.
