Kyiv – Boris Johnson made a surprise/secret visit to Ukraine’s southern front lines in Zaporizhzhia Oblast on or around April 10, 2026 (his dispatch was published April 11).

Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson famously prevented peace from breaking out in Ukraine at the start of the war, admonishing Zelenskiy to keep fighting and not agree to end the fighting. Now he’s back, after 1.5M dead and maimed, to still keep the war going.

This appears to be his most recent trip, marking his first visit to active front-line positions. He spent about 48 hours with Ukraine’s 65th Separate Mechanized Brigade near Huliaipole (also spelled Gulyaipole) and Komyshuvakha, roughly 10-15 km from Russian positions in the “kill zone.”

The area faces heavy Russian drone activity (Shahed-style and smaller FPV drones), with soldiers using devices like “Chuika” to detect them.

He traveled with Daily Mail journalist Richard Pendlebury and photographer Jamie Wiseman.

Activities included meeting soldiers, visiting outposts and a frontline village grocery store (which they had to flee due to drone warnings), observing drone defenses (like anti-drone netting over roads), speaking with locals and a brigade priest, and witnessing the impacts of Russian attacks (e.g., damaged buildings, cars, and recent drone strikes on civilians).

“After talking with Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines, I see their fatigue and a natural human desire for the war to end. I felt anger at the West’s lack of support,” he said.

Many Ukrainians, who are tired of the war and death, were not amused.

“Why Boris Idiot Johnson arrived to Orekhov near Zaporizzhya? He caused so much of misery and deaths in Ukraine!” asked one source in Kyiv, Ukraine.
