Raúl Castro Immediately Concerned In Early U.S.-Cuba Talks, Díaz-Canel Says – Journal Posts
Miguel Díaz-Canel, Cuba’s “president”, confirmed that ongoing talks with the United States are in the early stages and said Raúl Castro is playing a central role in directing the discussions alongside senior officials.
Miguel Díaz-Canel said Raúl Castro is among those guiding the process alongside him and other party, government, and state bodies, adding that he closely follows the progress of the dialogue. He described a coordinated, “collegial” leadership structure involving Castro, himself, and other officials, under which Cuban representatives have recently met with officials from the United States Department of State to address bilateral differences.
Díaz-Canel said the structure of the talks is focused on addressing a wide range of bilateral issues, potentially including migration, U.S. involvement in Cuba’s economy, and drug trafficking. He described the approach as a coordinated effort across government bodies, aimed at working through “thousands” of outstanding matters.
