In recent weeks, Fox 35 (Orlando) and Fox 4 (Naples – Ft. Myers) ran TV news reports out of central Florida and in Clewiston, southwest of Lake Okeechobee, about coyotes attacking cats and dogs.
Fox 35 reported that residents in an Orlando neighborhood are on alert after multiple coyotes were seen on streets during the day. In one incident, two coyotes attacked a small dog in a fenced yard.
One resident told Fox 35, “It’s going to end up with some child getting hurt before [authorities] resolve the issue.”
Bizarrely but maybe practically, some dog owners are now putting “armor” on their pets. One woman showed sensors activating the sounds of dogs barking and a person shooting. (See the second video by Fox 35).
South of Orlando in Clewiston, a number of cats have gone missing.
One resident spoke to Fox 4 saying that the remains of her cat were found in a neighbor’s yard. Another neighbor said he had seen coyotes in their neighbor late at night. Another neighbor gave Fox 4 video footage of two coyotes attacking her cat.
