Nancy Meyers Returns to Rom-Coms With a New Film Coming in 2027

After more than a decade away from the director’s chair, Nancy Meyers — the filmmaker behind some of the most beloved romantic comedies in modern cinema — is officially returning with a new movie. And she’s bringing a remarkable ensemble cast along for the ride.

It has been 11 years since Meyers’ last film, The Intern, first hit theaters. Now, the prolific writer and director is set to deliver a brand new rom-com through Warner Bros. Pictures, with a release date already locked in for Christmas Day 2027, according to Deadline.

While the project is still untitled, excitement is already building — and much of that buzz centers on who will appear on screen.

A Star-Studded Cast

The film has assembled an impressive roster of talent. As reported by Deadline, the cast includes Penélope Cruz, Owen Wilson, Kieran Culkin, Jude Law and Emma Mackey.

The lineup has shifted considerably over the project’s long development period. At one point, the movie was supposed to feature performances by the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Michael Fassbender and Adam Driver, but those appearances fell apart over the years.

What We Know About the Plot

As of February 2026, nothing has been officially announced about the plot for Nancy Meyers’ first movie in over a decade. However, Variety has reported that this is believed to be a new take on a project the beloved filmmaker was trying to get off the ground back in 2022.

Back then, as reported by Deadline, the project was called Paris Paramount and would focus on an “above-the-line filmmaking duo” reuniting after an earlier romance fell apart.

The studio has not shared a name for the movie, but Variety is reporting that this is going to be a version of Paris Paramount. It is still unknown if Paris Paramount was the movie’s intended title or just a working one.

Warner Bros. hasn’t shared details about the budget or if the script has changed, but the original Paris Paramount concept centered around a young writer-director who falls in love with a producer. The couple produce several successful films together before breaking up, both romantically and professionally.

They are later brought back together by a new project, forced to navigate higher stakes and unpredictable stars. The Hollywood Reporter described it as “semi-autobiographical.”

Meyers herself offered a brief glimpse into the film’s spirit on Instagram in 2023: “The movie is about a group of people making a film and the magic and mystery of what we do.”

The Rocky Road to Production

Getting this movie made has not been a straightforward journey. The project was previously picked up by Netflix in 2023. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the streamer shut down production over budgetary issues. Meyers was said to have asked for a budget of at least $150 million, but the studio balked and wanted to stay under $130 million.

That disagreement effectively stalled the project, leaving fans wondering if the film would ever see the light of day. The move to Warner Bros. Pictures, with a confirmed Christmas Day 2027 release, signals that the project has found new life — and a new home willing to bring Meyers’ vision to the screen

Meyers has built a career as one of the most recognizable names in romantic comedies. She is the prolific writer and director behind films like Something’s Gotta Give, The Parent Trap and The Holiday — movies that have become staples for audiences who love the genre.

She was also married to American filmmaker Charles Shyer, who directed The Father of the Bride series and co-directed with Meyers on The Parent Trap and Baby Boom. Shyer died in December 2024. Given the “semi-autobiographical” nature of the project’s original concept — a story about a filmmaking duo whose romance falls apart — it is possible Meyers’ next project is inspired by him.

What to Watch For

With a Christmas Day 2027 release on the calendar, there is still plenty of time for additional details to emerge — including the film’s official title, a trailer and further information about the plot and how it may have evolved from the original Paris Paramount concept.

For now, fans of Meyers’ signature style of warm, witty and deeply human storytelling have a clear date to circle on their calendars. After 11 years without a new Nancy Meyers film, the wait is nearly over.
