With the danger of World War III looming on the horizon, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Donald Trump’s leading ally in Europe, had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday to discuss the situation in Ukraine in hopes of seeking a peaceful resultion to the conflict.

Orbán indicated that he had a vested interest in finding a political and diplomatic solution to the crisis, with regard to his relations with several western leaders. At the same time, Mr Putin gave the Hungarian Prime Minister an account of the current state of affairs in Ukraine and the development of the situation. They also discussed the tense situation in the Middle East region after recent events in Syria.

The two leaders also reviewed the  continuously expanding bilateral economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. They paid particular attention to growing mutually advantageous energy projects.

Ukrainian strong man Volodomir Zelensky was quick to condemn Orbán’s outreach to Putin as he continues to oppose any peaceful resolution of the conflict as he seeks to escalate the conflicit.
