Why Josh Duhamel Says His Ego Affected His Marriage to Fergie

Fergie’s fame had Josh Duhamel tripping and stumbling over himself for a bit of attention. 

Nearly 10 years after the Black Eyed Peas singer and the Safe Haven star separated following eight years of marriage, Josh admitted that being her other half took some getting used to.

“It was a huge shift,” Josh said during a March 25 appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show. “She was a massive star at the time.”

And while Josh—dad to son Axl, 12, with Fergie and son Shepherd, 2, with wife Audra Mari—reflected on the difficulty of being married to Fergie, he admitted it was mostly in his head. 

“It’s probably my own ego more than anything,” Josh continued. “I don’t think it bothered her as much as it probably did me.”

As he said of marrying the 50-year-old, “It was suddenly, you’re in that shadow a lot of the times.”

But while Fergie and Josh’s romance ultimately didn’t work out, he learned that “at the end of the day,” she is “a very normal person.” And since they parted ways in 2017, he and the “Clumsy” singer have developed a “great relationship.”
