Who Is Chris Stapleton's Wife? Meet Singer Morgane Stapleton
Chris Stapleton couldn’t let the 2024 Country Music Association Awards end without giving a shoutout to one of the most important people in his life — his wife, Morgane Stapleton (née Hayes). The country singer forgot to thank her when he accepted the Single of the Year award for his song “White Horse” on November 20, 2024, but he made up for it with his Song of the Year acceptance speech.
“I really am taken aback. Thank you so much for this. I owe my wife an apology. That last award also belonged to her,” he said. “It just happened so fast … all my music, I really owe a lot to her, so I thank her for her support.”
Chris’ sweet speech had many fans wanting to know more about his marriage to Morgane and how she’s contributed to her husband’s music career.
Who Is Chris Stapleton’s Wife, Morgane Stapleton?
Like her husband, Morgane — who was born in Nashville — is a talented singer-songwriter. She has worked with him multiple times, having performed background, harmony and duet vocals in his band. Morgane also contributed to all of his albums, including his debut, Traveller, which she helped create.
“Make no mistake, [Morgane’s hands are] always all over everything,” Chris told Rare Country in 2017. “She’s my Jiminy Cricket in a lot of ways. She’s the voice of reason, because I’m not always reasonable. She’s been known to make me change keys on something. She’ll be like, ‘Sing higher.’ I’m like, ‘Alright.’ I get lazy on keys sometimes. I’ll key it lower, that way I can sing it lower live. She won’t let me get lazy on stuff like that. She knows when I’m doing it, and nobody else does.”
Morgane’s musical expertise hasn’t only helped out her husband. She’s also written music for Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, LeAnn Rimes and more. The Tennessee native has also done background vocals for Carrie and Kellie.
Morgane also has experience as a doula. In April 2021, it was revealed that Miranda Lambert would be filling in for Chris’ wife at the ACM Awards due to Morgane having a “prior doula commitment,” according to People.
Chris later clarified, “My sister-in-law’s in labor right now, so my wife was on baby watch — and for once, not her own baby! — but it’s been an interesting night tonight, so lots to celebrate.”

The “Starting Over” singer asked Morgane to write a song with him, which became their first date. However, Morgane told The Washington Post, “We didn’t get much writing done that night.”
Morgane and Chris tied the knot on October 27, 2007.
