Today’s meeting in The White House between President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelenskiy, in addition to the leaders of the major European powers, produced additional questions more than anything. There was not a ‘deal’ announced.
However, President Trump did say that security arrangements would be made for Ukraine, and the United States ‘would be involved.’
That could mean many things; we hope it does not mean American forces deployed in-country. In our view, that outcome needs to be avoided at all cost. That is not what we voted for Mr. President.
He declared there would be a call with President Putin after the meeting.
As we have said over and over, this is not our war, and our children should not die for it.
Providing intelligence, equipment, or certain types of aviation may be acceptable, but infantry patrolling the front lines, ‘advisors’ in the rear in numbers, or other forms of ‘boots on the ground’ is simply unacceptable.
President Trump declared, “We will reach a resolution today on almost everything including security. I am optimistic that we can reach an agreement that would deter any future aggression against Ukraine. I don’t think that will happen. I think that is overrated.”
Macron called for a “quadrilateral meeting” involving Putin, Trump, Zelensky, and the Europeans. Because, of course he did.
