Where Do Below Deck Med’s Captain Sandy Yawn and Hannah Ferrier Stand Today?
As of June 2025, the pair had mended fences and were friendly again after years of animosity.
“Sandy and I sat down and had a really good chat when she was in Sydney,” the Australia native revealed on the June 2, 2025, episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. Hannah told Andy that the pair spoke for “three hours” in person.
“She met my daughter, my husband,” the former yachtie added, referring to Ava Grace Roberts and Josh Roberts. Hannah gave birth to their only child in October 2020, and the couple married in March 2022.

Hannah revealed it was Sandy who initiated their conversation. “I think that enough time had passed that I was kind of like … I don’t like holding onto grudges, I don’t like having any bad energy in my body,” she explained.
Hannah Ferrier Said Her Relationship With Captain Sandy Yawn Was ‘Real’
“Sandy and I – despite what you saw on camera – we had something real during those years, and I think that’s why I was kind of so hurt and disappointed,” Hannah said about their relationship during WWHL, as she was Below Deck Med‘s chief stew for the first five seasons of the show up until her firing.
“With Sandy, it was nice to sit down and hear her side and say my side and so yeah, getting to a resolution,” she added.
Hannah also revealed, “Now I FaceTime her when I’m up late and we chat, it’s amazing. We’ve got some appearances coming up together that I’m so excited about.”

What Happened Between Captain Sandy Yawn and Hannah Ferrier on ‘Below Deck Med’?
Hannah’s bunkmate, bosun Malia White, turned the interior chief in to Sandy after discovering she had undeclared prescription valium aboard their yacht for panic attacks, as well as a vape pen. Malia sent photos of the items to Sandy, who called Hannah into a meeting and fired her for violating maritime law.
Sandy later said in a voiceover that, “This is maritime law. It is called a no tolerance law. We have to be drug free … If I didn’t address this and something God forbid happened, I would be taken to jail, the boat would be incarcerated and I would lose my license. What she has done is illegal.”
Hannah Ferrier and Captain Sandy Yawn Parted on Bad Terms
After Hannah left the Wellington to cool down before packing her belongings, Sandy followed her off the ship to continue their conversation. Hannah told her the firing was “utter bulls–t.”
The skipper then claimed she had plenty of opportunities to fire her in previous seasons but didn’t take them.
“Hannah, do you think if I wanted you off the boat that I would use this? It is bulls–t cause I could have fired you last year and the year before. So, if you want to make it about that and say that I don’t care, that’s fine with me. I won’t care. So officially I don’t f–cking care,” Sandy continued as they headed back to the yacht.
“Pack your clothes and you can go now,” Sandy demanded of Hannah in their parting conversation.
Hannah Ferrier and Captain Sandy Yawn Remained Estranged After Her Firing
“Hannah doesn’t want any part of me,” Sandy told Journalposts in July 2022. “I feel I’m happy for her in everything that she’s doing. Honestly — I’ve never had a feeling of hate. It doesn’t live in my heart. I wish her well, and for some reason she blames me, but you know what? I’m sorry. I’m not gonna risk my career for anybody. I wish her well.”
Hannah Ferrier Said Her Working Relationship With Captain Sandy Yawn Was ‘Difficult’
Hannah told In Touch in June 2020 prior to the season 5 premiere that she and Sandy had a “very difficult relationship that goes up and down a lot.”
“And one day she kind of loves me, the next day she hates me,” Hannah continued about their hot and cold situation. “I think there comes a stage where I think even … I’ve seen the comments on social media that it’s just like, either just work with her or don’t work with her. It’s almost like cruel me going back season after season to listen to how bad I am and how she should fire me and all of this stuff.”
“Because if you really can’t work with me to that level, then … it just gets to the stage where it’s a little bit like I’m such a strong person, but it does get to a little bit to the stage where you just feel a little bit bullied,” she explained.
