Last month, Fox 35 TV news in Orlando reported that some birds were falling from the sky.

But why?

With the massive seasonal migration, the birds were getting exhausted, said news presenter Luanne Sorrell.

The birds were migrating from Canada and Newfoundland.

According to Tara Miller, a Rescuer at Wild Florida Rescue, the younger birds were exhausted and dropping into the water along the Space Coast area to the east of Orlando. They then got over to the beach and needed to rest.

“If people could leave them be and let them rest,” advised Miller. “They’ll get themselves back in the water, they’ll be able to feed again, and they’ll be able to fly and continue their journey.”

Unfortunately, well-intentioned people moving the birds back to the tree line makes it nearly impossible to get to the water, where they need to be to fly away, said the reporter.
