UPDATE: Witkoff says talks were constructive and President Trump wants to resolve through negotiations.


Atmosphere generally seen as positive in initial talks today in Oman, which will resume next week.


Trump peace negotiator Steve Witkoff, fresh off a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, has now begun indirect negotiations with Iran in Oman.

Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi has declared indirect talks between Iran and the United States have begun in Muscat, Oman.

Araghchi and Witkoff’s talks are taking place in two separate halls, and positions will be exchanged through the Foreign Minister of Oman, added the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

The FM said talks will be brief today, to outline opening positions.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is speaking at a geopolitical conference in Turkey – Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

“We have kept our pledge to stop targeting energy infrastructure, but Ukraine continues its attacks on an almost daily basis.

“Russia has given Türkiye a list of Ukrainian attacks on energy facilities since the moratorium began.

“Trump seems to understand much more about what’s going on in Ukraine than any European leader.

“We are not interested in land. We are concerned about the peoples living on those lands. 

“By a twist of fate, some of our people remained in Ukraine.

“Trump proposes return to normal relations.

“We discussed bilateral relations, conditions for ending the conflict, and the return of five Russian diplomatic property seized by the Obama administration.

“NATO’s greatest enemy is NATO itself.

“All the efforts of the Euro-Atlantic community are focused on preparing for a new war — with Germany, France, and Britain leading the way.”
