University of Oregon Staffer Fired After Controversial 'Kill Yourself' Remarks About Trump Supporters – JP
The University of Oregon has dismissed Leonard Serrato, an Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life, after he made controversial remarks on social media calling for Trump supporters to “go jump off of a f*cking bridge” in the wake of the 2020 presidential election. The university confirmed to the Daily Mail that Serrato, who had previously been placed on administrative leave, is “no longer an employee,” citing “personal reasons” for his departure without further elaboration.
Serrato’s comments, posted in a video on social media, came after President Trump’s victory in 2020. In the video, Serrato expressed intense anger toward those who voted for Trump, saying, “If you are so sad about your groceries being expensive, get a fcking better paying job. Do better in life. Get a fcking education. Do something, cause you are fcking stupid.” He then added, “And I hope that you go jump off of a fcking bridge.”
Initially, the university defended Serrato, stating that the post was made on his own time and was within his rights. However, after further investigation, university officials denounced the video, calling it “abhorrent” and contrary to the institution’s values. Serrato’s past also includes a 2014 conviction related to a hazing death at Fresno State University, where he was sentenced to 90 days in jail for providing alcohol to a fraternity pledge, which led to the pledge’s death.
