Ukrainian 'Capture Of Chinese Soldiers' Likely A Zelenskiy Propaganda Ploy To Influence Trump – JP

We’ve all seen the video of the ‘Chinese nationals’ captured by Ukraine on the battlefield in East Ukraine. JP has no doubt that Chinese volunteers have entered the fray for money as mercenaries, just like nationals from scores of other nationals have done to fight on both sides of the war. We have no doubt these mercenaries had Chinese passports as claimed.

While Zelensky said they had recovered “identification documents, bank cards, and personal data” on the two Chinese nationals, it’s still unclear whether these individuals volunteered or if the Chinese military deployed troops to Russia, wrote the Washington Examiner.

“Our military has captured two Chinese citizens who were fighting as part of the Russian army. This happened on Ukrainian territory — in the Donetsk region,” the Ukrainian leader said. “We have information suggesting that there are many more Chinese citizens in the occupier’s units than just these two. We are currently verifying all the facts — intelligence, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the relevant units of the Armed Forces are working on it.”

However, the capture by the Zelenskiy regime of Chinese mercs in Donbass or Kursk does not mean the PLA is entering the war as North Koreans regulars likely have done for Russia.

China is keen to get into the acquisition of minerals in East Ukraine, and to facilitate its mercantile commerce, and to be seen as a peacekeeper in the region. We do not think Beijing wants to be seen as a combantant.

The inference to such is likely a propaganda ploy by Zelenskiy to force Trump’s hand in providing continued military assistance.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the ministry “summoned China’s chargé d’affaires in Ukraine to the Foreign Ministry to condemn this fact and demand an explanation.”
